As the ‘town in the country’ Solihull has always been proud of its links to the countryside. By creating new cycling and walking routes for people to enjoy, Wildlife Ways will ensure residents can love being out and about without their cars.
Overall improvements will be made to 69km of existing footpath and cycle networks and there will be 23km of new footways and improved access for cyclists. The routes will be landscaped with links, wherever possible, to existing green spaces and sustainable transport options. The project will also improve the habitat value of 56 hectares of parks and open spaces for the benefit of people and wildlife – more than 90 football pitches.
The widened pathways, surrounded by new trees, bulbs and wildflowers, will lead to less reliance on cars and improve our air quality as a result.
Wildlife Ways will also help create greener businesses. We are working with local enterprises and their supply chains to reduce the impact of construction works through a proactive business support programme.
