Outside of Solihull
There are also opportunities for people to take part in important projects outside the borough.
Within Wildlife Ways there is a Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBSLEP) Small Habitats Grant Programme run by Solihull Council. This provides funding to organisations across the borough and the wider GBSLEP area to improve land and areas of waterway of value for people and wildlife.
Funding between £20,000 and £200,000 is available for innovative small-scale environmental projects via the scheme.
The scheme is open to:
- Charities
- Statutory organisations
- Not-for-profit organisations
- Community or voluntary organisations
- Parish or Town Councils
- Businesses (if their land is open to public all year round)
- Schools (if their land is open to public all year round)
Some project examples include:
- Grassland improvements
- Wildflower seeding
- Woodland improvements
- Wetland improvements
- Tree and hedgerow planting
- River and canal bank improvements
Bees and Trees is a project which includes woodland and grassland management works. It is part of the Wildlife Ways / Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership’s (GBSLEP) Habitats Grants Programme – part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The Solihull Bees and Trees programme will ensure better conservation for over 23 hectares of habitat, bringing nature improvements across the borough and beyond.

Please email [email protected] if you think you have a potential Small Habitats Grants Project. This should include a brief description of the project, approximate costs and the size of the area to be improved. If the project meets the criteria an application form will be sent.
