Bickenhill (Routes D and F) including Marston Green, is a hub of activity for the Wildlife Ways project.

From March 2019 to November 2020, over 180 trees including sweet chestnut, apple and hornbeam were planted across the area. Over 200,000 crocus, primrose, snowdrop, daffodil and allium bulbs have been planted, while 14,000 square metres of wildflower turf was laid.

Our teams are working on a section of Route D on Coleshill Heath Road between Bickenhill Road and Chester Road. Following a recent consultation, speed cushions from the junction of Bickenhill Road to the junction with Chester Road will be added to the highway. There will also be completion of the new pedestrian crossing and finishing off of the footway resurfacing.

Some partial road closures will be required during March 2021. There will be pedestrian diversions and traffic management in place to ensure people are able to access their properties. If they require any assistance, they are advised to speak to a member of the team on site who will help as required. You can see the traffic diversion plans below.

Pathway works along Bickenhill Road between Lyndon Croft/Low Brook Culvert and Coleshill Heath Road are almost complete following on from the works along the previous section of Route D along Bickenhill Road between Elm Farm Avenue and Lyndon Croft/Low Brook Culvert.

On Route F we made footpath improvements between Gloucester Way and Coleshill Road and in Marston Green Park. On nearby Moorend Avenue crocus have bloomed, wildflowers have been added and new trees planted.

A section of Route C in Bickenhill along Damson Parkway is now finished which involved widening of the footway.

In autumn 2020 we set out wildflower turf and planted bulbs, primroses and some trees around Damson Parkway and Hampton Lane. Will also be doing some traditional hedge-laying along a section of Damson Parkway opposite Solihull Moors FC. This will take place 8 – 27 February (subject to weather and contractor’s programming).

These works form part of a borough-wide project which is designed to make Solihull greener. Part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the project will open up and improve existing routes, allowing wildlife to flourish and helping people to walk and cycle across the borough.
