Chelmsley Wood

Work in Chelmsley Wood includes the planting of almost 100 semi-mature trees and over 260,000 crocus, snowdrop and primrose bulbs. There has also been the laying and seeding of over 23,000 square metres of wildflower seeds and turf.

Our teams are working on a section of Route D on Coleshill Heath Road between Bickenhill Road and Chester Road. Following a recent consultation, speed cushions from the junction of Bickenhill Road to the junction with Chester Road will be added to the highway. There will also be completion of the new pedestrian crossing and finishing off of the footway resurfacing.

Some partial road closures will be required during March 2021. There will be pedestrian diversions and traffic management in place to ensure people are able to access their properties. If residents require any assistance, they are advised to speak to a member of the team on site who will help as required. You can see the traffic diversion plans below.

The completed Route G includes a new, wider footpath for pedestrians and cyclists between Cooks Lane and Chester Road with a new pedestrian crossing on Cooks Lane.

In autumn 2020 we laid out wildflower turf and planted bulbs, primroses and some trees around Berwicks Lane, Forth Drive, Chester Road, Bluebell Recreation Ground and Chelmsley Road. To date along Chester Road we have carried out wildflower seeding on several verges and central reservations. Trees and wildflower turf was added at select locations early in 2020.

As well as Wildlife Ways we made improvements to Meriden Lake which will restore it to a more natural wetland state. You can read more about this scheme here.

These works form part of a borough-wide project which is designed to make Solihull greener. Part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the project will open up and improve existing routes, allowing wildlife to flourish and helping people to walk and cycle across the borough.
